How do you know you have high blood pressure?

A look at some symptoms that might suggest high blood pressure

Remember when you were a lot younger, how you used to have limitless energy and get up to all sorts of mischief? Seems like a lifetime ago. You were the life and soul of the party, and now you can’t make it past eight.

Falling asleep on the sofa has become the norm. It might not be your job, your wife or even the kids. Hey, it just might be you, suffering from high blood pressure. And you don’t even know it.

Some signs and symptoms of high blood pressure

You’ve heard it being called the ‘silent killer’, and you’ll probably feel fine even though your pressure is sky high. Except that sometimes, you get a headache that feels like a really bad hangover – and you haven’t had a drop of alcohol. Walk into a room and forget why you went in there in the first place? What about a sudden, sharp pain in the chest? Look in the mirror and your eyes seem a little bloodshot? That’s some of the symptoms, add to that the following list, and you might be in a spot of trouble:

  • Tiredness
  • Trouble with your vision
  • Difficulty breathing
  • You heart ‘skips’ a beat or beats erratically
  • There is blood your urine
  • You feel like there is constant ‘pounding’ in your ears, chest or neck

And if you think that can’t get any worse, you’re dead wrong. If left unchecked, high blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart attacks, kidney failure... and a whole lot of other complications that you can certainly do without. The message? Make an appointment to see your doctor as soon as possible.

Work with your doctor and take your meds, on time, every time

If you want to live long enough to see little Johnny grow up and have kids of his own (just punishment for the ‘darling’ boy) or little Susan finally without a snotty nose, you have to take your prescription meds. Yeah, yeah, you live a busy life, and you’re going to forget… No more excuses, okay, we’ve got your back.
